The Kindersley Klippers have filled their vacant assistant coaching position with a former player. Ryne McKinnon, of Flin Flon, was announced as the teams new assistant coach taking over from former assistant Kevin Edgerton. McKinnon, the former Klipper, has three years of experience playing for coach Larry Wintoneak in both Kindersley (SJHL) and in Dryden (SIJHL). Ò(Ryne) brings a lot of passion,Ó said Klippers head coach Wintoneak. ÒIÕve had an opportunity to coach (Ryne) for 3 years. HeÕs a guy that would go to the wall for us when he played and I know heÕll do the same thing as a coach. ÒHeÕs always wanted an opportunity to get involved in the game. He decided not to go to school this year and once Colin OHara got the (head coaching job) in Nipawin, (Ryne) was my next choice.Ó When asked about McKinnonÕs inexperience behind the bench, Wintoneak was quick to respond and knows that McKinnon will get respect from the players. Ò(RyneÕs) a young guy,Ó stated Wintoneak. ÒHeÕs played the game, he knows the game. ÒYes, heÕs played with Holmes and our (1988 born players), but heÕll have the respect (from the players) I know that for a fact.Ó The position was formerly held by Kevin Edgerton, whom Wintoneak hopes can still contribute to the hockey club. Ò(Hiring Ryne) will be a good addition,Ó said Wintoneak. ÒIf Edge can hang around and give us some minutes too weÕll have a great staff here because we donÕt want to leave Edge out of the picture either.Ó McKinnon graduated from Jr A hockey after the 2007-2007 SJHL season where he played 51 games for the Klippers, scoring six goals, three assists and adding 31 penalty minutes.
