Melville Millionaires forward Matt Stefanishion wants to try and play tonight against the Estevan Bruins despite a couple of scary on-ice incidents that have occured in the last three days. Early in the first period of Sunday's game against the Weyburn Red Wings, Stefanishion had his neck sliced by a skate blade from an opposing player. After skating off and receiving eight stitches, he returned to play the final two periods and picked up one goal and one assist. Melville won the game 9-3. At practice on Tuesday, an errant puck deflected off a goaltender's stick and struck the big, rugged forward on the cheek and that resulted in some anxious on-ice moments and, subsequently, thirty-seven more stitches to his face area. Head Coach Jamie Fiesel had this to say about the incidents. "He told me in the dressing room on Sunday that it was the first time he had been cut for stitches in his hockey playing career. You know how it goes. Once you say something like that, more is bound to happen. But, Matt is a tough kid and wants to play tonight." Stefanishion has 56-points in 36-games this season and is a starting member of the Sherwood Conference All-Stars. The 20-year-old will join the NCAA and Ferris State next fall.
