Justin Lies was one of 29 Manitoba players named to a provincial team for the 2018-19 Program of Excellence on June 19.
The only member of the team from northern Manitoba, Lies was picked by the Vancouver Giants in the third round of WHL Bantam Draft, becoming the first Flin Flon-born and trained draft pick since 2005.
Last season, Lies captained the Norman Bantam AAA Wolves, leading the team with 39 goals in 35 games and ending the season with 62 points. Lies also suited up for Team North in last winter’s Manitoba Winter Games, adding four assists in five games en route to a bronze medal finish.
The Manitoba team will hold a camp in Winnipeg this August, then head for Minnesota for an exhibition tournament in December at Shattuck-St. Mary’s.
