Recent Hapnot graduate and male athlete of the year Scott LeMaistre is living out his dreams in Winnipeg. After trying out for the Manitoba High School Provincial Volleyball Team in Grades 10, 11 and 12, he has finally been accepted to the team. In December, Scott attended the northern selections tryout in The Pas. He was one of only two players chosen from the North to continue on to the next level of tryouts. On the May long-weekend, Scott traveled to Winnipeg where he competed against 40 other athletes from across the province, many of whom play club volleyball all year round. Only 20 athletes would be selected to the final team. Following this tryout, Scott was invited to train with the Provincial Team in Winnipeg this summer. On July 4, he traveled to Winnipeg to begin training and was then invited to join the Provincial Team for touring this summer. Through the support of Mike's Ice and Burger Hut and The Standard Insurance Brokers Ltd. of Flin Flon through the Adopt an Athlete program, Scott will now be able to travel with the team to tournaments in Saskatoon and Calgary before returning to compete in a Winnipeg tournament during the August long-weekend. This fall, Scott will be attending the University of Winnipeg and playing volleyball for the Canadian Mennonite University team, which is an affiliate of the U of W. Scott's other recent achievements include a nod for the Manitoba High School Athletic Association Athlete of the Week for Volleyball, chosen to the Graduating All-star Volleyball Team, and was named this year's Hapnot Collegiate Sportsman of the Year, shared with Danny Halpin.
