The wipeouts aren't as bad as they look for members of the Northern Lights Waterski Club. Danny Springer and Brent Ross attempted their tricks on water as Steve Meyer, the club's president, controlled the boat. On Wednesdays, the members enjoy Beaver Lake from 6 p.m. on. How late the fun goes depends on the number of people who come out. "There's been days where I don't get home until after 11 p.m.," Meyer said. Springer was the first to strut his stuff. "I started at the beginning of the year doing the wake board and just decided to give the wave skating a try and I'm hooked on that," said Springer, who is a new member. "I just decided to give something else a try one day and see how I liked it or not." Springer said the water was fairly calm and he was able to try everything he wanted to. "It was good. Still working on a few things, but having a blast," he said. Brent Ross followed and looked like a master at the recreation sport as it took him some time before his first wipe out. This is his third year with the club and he's having fun with it. "My wife (Vicki Angell) got me into it. It's one of those, if you date her, you have to ski," Ross said, with a laugh. So what was his initial goal? "A good spot in my girlfriend's good books Ð and now that she's my wife Ð I'm just doing it for the fun of it," he explained. "The year has been going pretty fantastic," Meyer said. "We've had about 15 people and a lot of people join. The clinic that we had went over great, so it's been good. Lots of sunshine, everyone is willing to ski, so it's been pretty awesome." The ages vary from about 11 to about 45, which Meyer considers to be a good range. Things are going so well in the area that Meyer was contacted to do a clinic in Bakers Narrows. While Meyer controls the boat for his members to have fun, he gets to play a little also. "I usually wait until the end of the night so none of the little kids have to wait."
