Francois Laverdiere and the Flin Flon Bombers held the Nipawin Hawks to a 1-1 draw last night at the Whitney Forum, in their first game of the post-Skrabek era. With most of the letter-wearing players now playing for new teams, Clayton Geiger wore the 'C' for the first time, while Tyler Beachell, David Holinaty and Cole McLean wore the 'A's. If you could give a letter to a goaltender, Francois Laverdiere would be deserving as he stepped up to lead the team by making 34 saves. The Bombers were out shot 35-25, including 16-7 in the third period despite a six-minute power play for Flin Flon. Kyle Krunick scored the only goal of the first period for the Hawks at 1:46. Flin Flon scored their only goal in the second period. Newcomer Bradyn McCullough scored from his stomach, as he slid a loose puck around goaltender Dan Bauer. Carter Chomyn and Andrew Leslie assisted on the goal at 17:33. The Bombers couldn't get their power play working in the third period, as Nipawin's Kyle Nichols took a six minute penalty and then Charles Burd was ejected for checking from behind. Next action for the Bombers will be this Friday and Saturday when the Melfort Mustangs are in town.
