As the Tim Hortons Brier got underway in Winnipeg, Flin Flon hosted some curling action of its own over the weekend. Passionate cries of ÒHurry hard!Ó echoed throughout the Uptown Curling Club as the 76th Annual Flin Flon Ladies Bonspiel hit the ice. In the final for the A Event, the Elliott Rink bested the Murray Rink by a narrow score of 6-5. Skip Robertine Elliott, third Vicki Wallaker, second Shannon Irwin and lead Loraine Poirier wore bright smiles as they proudly accepted their trophy. In the B Event, the Edworthy Rink came out on top by downing the Becker Rink 10-2. Sharon Edworthy skipped the winning team of third Jan Rodnisky, second Jayne Watt and lead Kathy Crone. See 'Chrisp' on pg. Continued from pg. The C Event was a bit tighter affair as the Chrisp Rink downed the Palmer Rink by just three points, 9-6. The winning team was made up of skip Sue Chrisp, third Diane Pico, second Katy Anderson and lead Carol Shirran. But it was another lopsided score that decided the D Event. The Bryson Rink Ð made up of skip Kim Bryson, third Leigh Ann Nawrocki, second Michelle Reitlo and lead Raylene White Ð handily won over the Lundgren Rink 10-2. Several dozen spectators came and went throughout the weekend to cheer on friends and family members and enjoy one of the most anticipated local bonspiels of the year. With the curling season rapidly coming to a close, it was also one of the final chances to enjoy the sport that has so strongly permeated the winter culture of Flin Flon and area.
