Kelly Carrington Staff Writer The Creighton Kodiaks will have home-court advantage at this weekend's basketball Conferences. The senior girls will welcome Wynyard, Porcupine Planes, Norquay, Kelvington and Carrot River to the gymnasium. Of the five teams visiting coming to Conferences, the Kodiaks have only faced Porcupine Planes this year. But coach Ryan Trumbley says there are plenty of ways to prepare for a team you haven't played. 'We hear from other coaches as well as scouting reports,' he said. The Kodiaks' strategy this weekend is to do what they know best. Trumbley says as long as the girls play their own game, and play well, he is confident in the team. 'We're just going to worry about us,' he said. Though his team has only faced Porcupine Planes this year, the coach says he has a good feel for what the other teams are like. Currently, Wynyard is ranked first in the province. The Kodiaks are ninth and Norquay is 10th. 'Three of the top 10 teams are in our conference,' Trumbley said. The Kodiaks have a tough weekend ahead as only the top two teams will move onto Regionals. From there, the top four ranked teams will attend Hoopla _ the Provincial championships. 'That's where the best teams in the province will be,' said Trumbley. The Creighton Kodiaks have not yet made it to Hoopla. 'It's the biggest event that Saskatchewan High School Athletics Association puts on,' Trumbley said. 'So, getting in is very difficult.' With such high honours attached to Hoopla, Trumbley says just making it that far is like winning a medal. The Creighton Kodiaks will welcome the high-calibre basketball this weekend and hope to see plenty of familiar faces cheering them on. 'We'd like to see a full gym,' said the coach. Knowing Wynyard is ranked tops in the province, Trumbley says the Kodiaks are 'going to have to play a very good game to beat them.' The Kodiaks have accepted the challenge and hope to see everyone cheering them on this Friday and Saturday at Creighton Community School.
