Kelly Carrington Staff Writer The Senior A girls basketball team from Creighton Community School took the B Side title in a Birch Hills tournament recently. The Kodiaks, coached by Ryan Trumbley, defeated Carlton, from Prince Albert, 57-30 in the B side final. The team lost to St. Mary's, also from Prince Albert, 42-39 as well as La Ronge by 65-6 to be placed in the B side final. 'We struggled a little Friday night (as we're) still learning to take our time and run the offence,' Trumbley said. Friday and Saturday were like night and day for the Kodiaks. 'On Saturday, (we) came out a completely different team,' Trumbley said. We 'showed lots of patience and composure and we had no problems scoring the basketball.' Trumbley was impressed with the action on the court with kudos going to the defense. 'Our defense was quite good all weekend, but (we) still have some work to do,' he said. Back in Creighton after the Dec. 14 weekend tournament, the team will be focusing on offence. '...and the things we have to do differently versus a zone defence and man-to-man defence,' Trumbley said. The Kodiaks have been on the basketball court for roughly a month. Fundamentals Trumbley says with the fundamentals in place, the team can starts to add 'new wrinkles each week.' With area schools on Christmas break, the team will practice a few times 'just to keep the rust off.' The girls will be attending a big 2A tournament in Langham in January. Following the Jan. 11-12 road tournament, the Kodiaks will host their own competition.
