The Creighton Kodiaks are off to a strong start in their inaugural football season.

The Kodiaks won their third game as they demolished the Sandy Bay Timberwolves 61-6 last Thursday evening, Sept 25.

The Kodiaks were feeling more comfortable on the field in what was their second home game.

“I think we had more confidence and we played an altogether better game,” said wide receiver and quarterback Carter Watt.

The Kodiaks had been paired up against the Timberwolves in their first game of the season and defeated them 39-20. The rematch showed the Kodiaks were once again the stronger team.

“We beat them a couple weeks ago so I thought we would beat them again, but I didn’t expect this,” said Watt. “I thought it would have been a little closer.”

Regardless, he and his teammates celebrated the big win in front of another large crowd of roughly 300.

On the sidelines, coach Jason Straile says it was evident the team had more confidence in their game.

“The amount of time they put into practice and then a couple of games under their belts is definitely a confidence booster,” said Straile. “Knowing we can play football against whoever is coming to play really gives them the confidence to go out and play their best.”

The best could still be to come as the Kodiaks have one more regular season game. They will travel to La Ronge this Thursday before the start of the playoffs.

Last week’s 61-6 win kept the Kodiaks in first place of the Eastern Division standings in the Northern Saskatchewan Football League with six points overall.

The big win also secured the Kodiaks home field advantage for the start of the playoffs.
