It was a successful weekend as both the boys and the girls won their conferences in basketball Ð sending them to the Regionals. The senior boys team, coached by Chad Trumbley and Ryan Biberdorf, had had a good season as they went into conferences ranked first. "The boys played awesome," said Biberdorf. "They had a lot of fun and that turned into technical play. "It was a lot better, more relaxed, and they enjoyed themselves." Relaxation seemed to be the key for the Kodiaks as they are now ranked 11th in the province Ð ending their regular season 17-8. This weekend, the team will head to Osler, SK, for Regionals. "It's a long ways to go, but if the boys play like they have, we can make it," said Biberdorf. The girls are in the same boat as the won their conferences last weekend and are heading to Delmany for Regionals. Coach Ryan Trumbley said the team played "extremely well." "The best we've ever played," he said, noting that the team "peaked" at the right time. Heading to Regionals in any event is a big deal, says Trumbley. "We've never won Conference (in basketball) before. So it's awesome to have the boys and the girls (win)." With a season record of about 16-11, the girls are preparing for their challenge this weekend. Following Regionals, the province will host Hoopla at the University of Saskatchewan Ð the highest rank basketball tournament. The top four teams in each division, both male and female, will compete for the title of best in the province.
