The Creighton Kodiaks are now among a select few schools that have two sportsmanship banners hanging from their rafters.
Saskatchewan High School Athletics Association’s assistant executive director Lyle McKellar presented the school’s volleyball team with the 2014 sportsmanship banner during a school assembly Wednesday.
McKellar says though having more than one sportsmanship banner in a school is possible, it’s not common.
“We would like to have a blue sportsmanship banner in every school in the province,” said McKellar, after presenting the banner, which will hang beside the 2011 banner. “We look really hard at trying to find new schools to present to, but when we do come back to a school for a second or third time, it says quite a bit about the school and about the community.”
The Kodiaks received their banner Wednesday after a successful 2014 volleyball season in which they also won the regional title.
Captain Blair Pietsch says the team not only played well, but also worked together as a team.
“It just shows that we all worked together and that when we work together, we work really well,” said Pietsch, a Grade 11 student.

The Kodiaks’ nomination for the sportsmanship banner came while they were competing in the provincial championships in Shaunavon and Eastend.
“Both hosts say the same thing,” said McKellar. “They said how classy the [Kodiaks] were, how respectful [they] were and how appreciative they were of what the hosts were doing.”
The Kodiaks also received recognition for their commitment to shaking hands with the officials after each game.
Kodiaks coaches Erik Nasselquist and Ian Clarke also received compliments for being role models for the team.
