It's toonie time! The students of Creighton Community School will be collecting their toonies, and other change, to help raise money for the Terry Fox Run on September 11. Their Toonies for Terry will help add to the national campaign and Marathon of Hope Fox created while battling cancer. Money raised through Creighton Community School will be saved in an industrial sized tube, which recreation programmer Courtney Whitmore says will give the students have a visual on how much has been raised. Like the town and citywide runs, the students will take part in a group walk around the town. With roughly 500 students at the school this year, the Kindergarten to Grade 6 students will be walking for the cause. High school students, Whitmore says, have the option to walk or not. Once the students return to the school, the Town of Creighton will have hot dogs and juice boxes for sale. Proceeds from the food purchased will also go to the Terry Fox Foundation. Residents of Creighton and Denare Beach are welcome to join the students in their walk. Whitmore says last year a number of parents and grand parents joined their children and grand children in the Marathon of Hope.
