It came as a bit of a surprise to the coaches when half of Creighton Community SchoolÕs Track and Field team qualified to move onto to Provincials. Eight athletes will be heading to Regina next weekend for the two day track meet Ð to see who the best of the best is in Saskatchewan. Running coach Ryan Trumbley says while the coaches knew the athletes had the talent to be that great, it came as a good surprise when their names were called. ÒWe knew it would happen, we just didnÕt know it would happen so quickly,Ó says Trumbley. Sixteen athletes made their way to Melfort on Tuesday to compete against the top eight in their division. But that didnÕt seem to shake the team as they came home with five gold medals, six silver and six bronze. ÒIt worked out really well. We were hoping realistically to have four or five athletes going. Getting to Provincials in Saskatchewan for Track and Field is really hard to do,Ó says the coach. The school has never had a serious Track and Field team before, so Trumbley says that makes it even better. Runners, jumpers and throwers will be heading to Regina soon enough to compete against the top two in their division. And along with the Kodiaks, nearly 25 other schools will be taking part.
