The Creighton Kodiak boys basketball team lost in the final, while the girls went winless during the Mid-Winter Thaw tournament last weekend. The boys basketball team went 2-1 as they lost in the final to host La Ronge 44-39. Jason Straile, who coached the team for Jodee Gray, said the tournament went very well. "It's the best they played in a long time," Straile said. "We just came up short in the final." In the other two games, the Kodiaks defeated Duck Lake 59-44 and Martinsville 60-24. Tammy Cool watched her girls' team finish 0-3, but saw improvement as the tournament went on. In the first game the Kodiaks lost to Duck Lake 53-21. High scorers were Meagan Abele with eight points and Jordan King with five. Against Martinsville, Meagan Abele was the high scorer despite losing 63-25. The final game against La Ronge was a close loss of 25-23. High scorers were Nicole Moberly and Jordan King with six points each. "They played very very well," Cool said. "The girls worked together and the defense was very very good. It was an overall good performance."3/2/06
