It was a small tournament, but a tournament none the less as the Hapnot Kopper Kings and Kweens hosted Cranberry Portage Saturday afternoon as well as Hapnot's JV teams Friday. Foster Park played home to the Kings for their first game against the JV boys, where the senior boys came out on top. And then again Saturday as they hosted Cranberry Portage Ð with another win for Hapnot. "It was pretty good considering that was our first game when we put our team together," said coach Steve Lytwyn. The small tournament, with only the two schools, was a weekend event to start the school year and see what other teams were out there. The Kweens also had a good weekend as they won both of their games Ð first against the JV girls and then against Cranberry Portage. "The senior girls are going to be pretty strong this year," said Kweens coach Megan Strachan. To make the two teams, a few of the senior girls had to play for the JV girls Ð which means the senior girls will have a few more names to choose from for the team this year. This past weekend was "a good start to kick off the school year," according to Strachan. The second year coach says it is a "good way to step into the soccer season." Heading out of town this weekend, 18 players will be in Neepawa for a tournament. Joining the Kweens, the Kings will also be on the road to Neepawa as both teams will play those from the home school, Verdon and Swan River. Lytwyn says this weekend should be a "good challenge" and says "we're up to it." Hapnot will be hosting Zones this year with teams coming into town for the weekend of October 2, for both the Kings and Kweens.
