Three straight wins by the Kindersley Klippers have earned them a spot at the Royal Bank Cup, starting this weekend in Grande Prairie, Alberta. The Klippers captured the Anavet Cup in game seven by defeating the Selkirk Steelers 2-1, largely due to the play of goaltender Kevin Dziaduck, borrowed from the Yorkton Terriers. Dziaduck replaced Kindersley netminder Nathan Deobald after Selkirk took a 3-1 lead in the series. In game seven on Sunday night in Kindersley, the Klippers took a 2-0 lead into the third period and held on to win 2-1. Kevin Dorsett scored for the Klippers in the first period at 10:59 from Steve Matic, and Jason Fleck scored the eventual game winning goal at 2:40 of the second period on a power play from Cody Vaughan. Selkirk out shot Kindersley 16-6 in the third period, but Dziaduck allowed only one goal, a power play marker at 0:50 by Steve Lajoie from Dustin Hughes. Final shots were 39-33 in favour of the Steelers, who scored their only goal on one of six power-play chances. The Klippers scored one goal on five man-advantages. The Royal Bank Cup Junior 'A' Championship begins on May 8 in Grande Prairie, Alberta. Other teams confirmed are the Nepean Raiders, the Nanaimo Clippers, the Aurora Tigers and the host Grande Prairie Storm.
