It's been a long process, but it's getting closer to the end. Workers are hoping to have the upgraded Kin Park complete by late fall. Kin Park chair Chad Plamondon says, "It's a realistic target. The sooner the better would be nice." But he adds, "late fall is the realistic date we're working with." While the park is already being used by many, there is still work that needs to be done. "It's great to see families and groups of kids out there," says Plamondon. "Now we need to re-sod the ground and work on the landscape. And we have to add the border timbers and the sand." Once everything is in place, Plamondon says the playground will be complete. "Our challenge now is trying to get the funding," he says, adding that "we've put in a application for the funds from the Kinsmen Jackpot Bingo." "Committees are also looking into certain initiatives," he says, "but they haven't made any decisions yet." As far as raising money for projects goes, the chairperson says there is always the club's Christmas tree sale and the ice shack raffle. "Those are all things we've done in the past for fun to help us with projects," notes Plamondon. The park itself, located at the corner of Green Street and Highway 10A, is, according to Plamondon, "seeing an increased amount of activity." "We're happy with the way things are going and how it is being utilized," he says." The park has benefitted from the addition of two structures, including one donated from Parkdale School. "Both are getting an equal workout for sure," says Plamondon.
