Just in time for the biggest summertime attraction in Flin Flon, Mayor Tom Therien cut the ribbon for the official reopening of Kin Park. To kick off the first use of the newly renovated community park, a family dance was held in conjunction with the 60th Annual Trout Festival. Mayor Therien, along with the Flin Flon Kinette and Kinsmen clubs, opened the park on June 30. Therien, a Kinsmen Club member, says Kin Park has long been a part of Flin Flon. The newly updated park offers more equipment and lighting. Members of the Kinettes and the Kinsmen clubs recently sodded the playground as well. "Kin Park means the world to Flin Flon," said Therien. "Flin Flon prides itself in parks (and) I think this is one of the best." Therien credits all the hard workers who put their heart and soul into the project. "The work has been fantastic," he said, noting that it makes the playground "that much better for the children." Over the years, Kin Park has undergone a transformation. Once housing a wading pool, the park still offers a sliding hill for the winter as well as the new equipment. "We've seen a lot of development over the last couple of years," said the mayor. What was once a school location, Kin Park has become a family-favourite spot. "It's got a number of structures that makes it that much better for parents (and their) children," he said. "The space is better utilized now because of the structures." Kin Park is open for families to use all year-round. Whether families are playing on the swings, climbing the structures or sliding down the hill in the wintertime, Therien says it's a great park.
