Known as a popular hangout in the winter, enhancing the Kin Park playground should add to its year-round appeal. Chad Plamondon, park chairman, says the park is receiving $47,000 in improvements, resulting in a new parking lot, play structure, basketball court and gazebo. "I'm excited and it's long overdue," he says. "It's suited more to younger children and I think it will be good for the community." He feels that adding the summer equipment should increase use year round. "I hope so," he said, when asked if he thinks the kids will like it. "It's gonna be something different and enjoyable for kids." An easy task it wasn't as Plamondon and his wife worked on the planning for 18 months while securing local financial help to make the playground a reality. The project received a Community Places grant, which contributed $10,000, while another $25,000 came from Kinsman Jackpot Bingo in Winnipeg. He feels good about the project, but will feel better once the playground is in place and will have a great sense of pride every time he drives by. The playground equipment is scheduled to be installed tomorrow.8/26/2005
