Local soccer season gets underway The local season is finally underway, and even though our fields look more like deserts due to the lack of rain, the players are out there enjoying what is called in the rest of the world, Òthe beautiful game.Ó This year the Norman U13 boys team is based in Flin Flon, with players from the City, OCN, Thompson and The Pas. The team will play in the Manitoba summer games being held in Carmen in August, with hopefully a tournament or two in between. The team is managed By Alan Hair and Dale Wride, and Coached by yours truly with assistant coaches Kyrra Kosar and Zoe Pittet. The travel requirements for training means that we meet up every two weeks for a three hour session consisting of basic skills and match practice. On May 25 we will be practicing at Phantom Lake soccer field from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and we invite any players not on the team, and under 13, to turn up. We will invite you to train with us and then we will have a game to assess your skill level and fitness. You never know you maybe invited to join the team. This will be the last try out for this team, so if you think you are good enough, or just want to compare your skills to other players, be at Phantom Lake soccer field. If everything goes to plan it looks as if the new field at Foster Park could have sod laid the last weekend in May. We will be leveling it very soon and then waiting for the right conditions to lay the sod. To see a new grass field in Flin Flon has been a dream for a long time. By the time you read this I will have had the first of my soccer for ladies sessions. This is an introduction into soccer and fitness for ladies of any age. The main priority is to have fun, get into shape and improve both cardio and physical fitness. I am starting at Phantom Lake field Saturday mornings, but will move to another field later in the month If you want to have fun, learn to Ôkick it like Kirkham,Õ phone 687-8577 for the time and location of the next session. Oh - and did I mention that Manchester United are once again the Premiership champions, this was the closest title race for many years, but as always the best team won!.
