ON the weekend of July 13 we (the Phantom Lake Soccer Club) held a clinic for the U12Õs at the Creighton Community Soccer Field. The clinic started on Friday evening, and then all day on Saturday and Sunday. During the weekend we had torrential rain on Friday, strong winds on Saturday, and hot sun on Sunday, with the odd thunder shower thrown in for good measure. Our players came from Flin Flon and Creighton, plus two from Thailand who were here on vacation. The camp was designed to improve the players basic skill, improve their fitness and have fun. The youngest player was Brooke Blackmon, who, at seven years old never stopped smiling, had a great time and tried everything even though the ball was almost the same size as her. The camp was a success, not quite as many players attended as we had hoped, but I know there will be more at the next one. We will be holding another camp in August. Ladies soccer Ladies soccer is starting very soon, if you have never kicked a ball, know what soccer is, or never even heard of soccer, come on out and just have fun. It really is for all skill levels, try something new and have a couple of hours a week to yourself, oh, and get fit in the process. Phone 687-8577 for more information. Hapnot Kweens The Hapnot Kweens are currently the best girls high school soccer team in zone 11, and we will be even stronger this season, we will start training the first week of August. But remember, we win because we work hard, the training is hard, the skills are advanced, but after all that is why have only lost two games in two years. During the soccer camp I ÔdiscoveredÕ a girl who I have never seen before, she is going into Grade 7, so has two years to play before she even gets to Hapnot, despite her age her skills were so good that I have invited her to train with the Kweens. Even though she will be ineligible to play for us. Sometimes you just get lucky and find someone with that ÔitÕ factor, and this is one of those players. Flin Flon consistently produces sportsmen and women who excel, for a small community it is amazing who has Ômade itÕ out of here, maybe itÕs in the soil, maybe itÕs in the water, but whatever it is it makes it easy to be a coach in Flin Flon. BoyÕs Soccer The team has been chosen for the under 13 boys Norman team for the Manitoba games in Carman in August. We have a strong team, now that the cuts have been made, which no coach enjoys, we can get down to some tactical training. The next few weeks are going to be tough, we go to Dauphin for a pre games tournament, this will allow us to assess our skill and fitness level. I do not intend losing a game in Dauphin, and to be honest we have a squad that can beat anyone. As a team we fear no-one, our boys know how to win, will never learn how to lose, and will represent Norman proudly
