Kelly Carrington Staff Writer The Flin Flon Bombers teamed up with the Flin Flon Minor Hockey Association to compete in a skills competition. At the Whitney Forum, both Junior Bombers and Novice players filled the benches as they waited for instructions. The players had a brief skate before doing a quick stretch, led by Bomber Dillan McCombie. With their legs ready to go, the Skills Competition was under way. First up was the fastest skater event. Teams of two or three (one Bomber for every one or two minor hockey players) raced against players of their own age for a combined fastest total. A breakaway competition and an agility challenge had the teams paired up in two very different events. For the breakaway contest, players shot three pucks each against a goalie of their own age. When the team's pucks were done, the team with the most points took the prize. For the agility contest, teams were required to skate around pylons before beelining it back to the start line. The final event was a hardest shot event Ð firing the puck into the net while a radar picked up the speed. The Bombers held their first Skills Competition in January of 2009, but decided to incorporate the younger players this year. Judging by the chants and cheers on the ice and on the bench, all who were involved had a good time.
