The Creighton Kodiaks junior boys’ basketball team went undefeated in round-robin play to advance to the finals of a tournament held at Creighton Community School last weekend.
Creighton won their first game 29-27, against Scott Bateman Middle School (SBMS) from The Pas, and then dominated Oscar Lathlin Collegiate from OCN 33-11 to advance to the final.
In the final against SBMS, Creighton fell behind early and were never able to recover. SBMS took the game 32-22.
“Because all the teams were very close in skill level, it was very competitive all weekend long,” said Kodiaks coach Ian Clark.
Clark added that it was great to watch the progress of the players throughout the season and even over the course of the tournament.
“I was extremely happy with the younger players, the Grade 7s. The amount they’ve improved is substantial.
“Even just in this tournament,” Clark added of all the players. “You get three games in a row and you can see them improve from game one all the way to game three.
“It was really close all the way through, really hard fought. The boys played hard. It was great, entertaining basketball. Really fun to watch.”
