The Swan Valley Stampeders and Waywayseecappo Wolverines will begin the Manitoba Junior Hockey League exhibition schedule August 27 in Waywayseecappo. The exhibition season will conclude September 13 and includes games against Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League teams and Briercrest College of the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference. The Portage Terriers and Southeast Blades will start the regular season September 15 on Southeast's home ice. The defending champion Selkirk Steelers will start September 17 on home ice against the OCN Blizzard. The Dauphin Kings will play the Winkler Flyers in Winkler and the Neepawa Natives will be in Portage la Prairie for other games September 17. The regular schedule will end March 1. Also, OCN transferred the playing rights of Jordan Dickson, 20, to the Merritt Centennials of the British Columbia Hockey League for Jesse Ruesch, 17. The Winnipeg South Blues transferred the playing rights of defenceman Dustin DeGagne, 19, to the Salmon Arm Silverbacks of the BCHL for future considerations. Winnipeg South transferred the playing rights of forward Donovan Chief, 19, to the Yarmouth Motormart Mariners of the Maritime Junior 'A' Hockey League for future considerations. The La Ronge Ice Wolves and Flin Flon Bombers' rookies will start the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League exhibition schedule September 4 in Flin Flon. The exhibition schedule will include games against teams from the Alberta Junior Hockey League, Manitoba Junior Hockey League, North American Junior Hockey League and Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference. Five games are scheduled September 17 to open the regular season. The defending league and Anavet Cup champion Kindersley Klippers will play the Battlefords North Stars on home ice. The Notre Dame Hounds will play the Humboldt Broncos in Humboldt, La Ronge will play in Flin Flon, the Nipawin Hawks will play the Melfort Mustangs in Melfort and the Melville Millionaires will play the Estevan Bruins in Estevan in the other September 17 games. The league's Showcase Tournament, scheduled September 23-26 in Saskatoon, will include Canada West University Athletic Association and Saskathewan Midget 'AAA' Hockey League teams. The University of Alberta Golden Bears, University of Regina Cougars, University of Lethbridge Pronghorns, University of Calgary Dinosaurs, University of Manitoba Bisons and University of Saskatchewan Huskies are the CWUAA teams entered. The league's regular schedule will conclude February 22. Also, Estevan transferred the playing rights of Matt Harms, 20, to the Drumheller Dragons of the AJHL for future considerations. Melfort transferred the playing rights of Britt Dougherty, 20, to Estevan. Battlefords transferred the playing rights of Adam Houle, 19, to the Lloydminster Blazers of the AJHL. The Brooks Bandits of the AJHL transferred the playing rights of Dallas Thomson, 19, to Melfort. Melville transferred the playing rights of defenceman Derek Wilhelm, 18, to Flin Flon for forward Brad Marcoux, 19, and future considerations.
