A junior high volleyball tournament was held in Flin Flon and Creighton this past weekend. In boys action, eight teams competed in two pools. After round robin play, Pool A had Ruth Betts at the top with a 5-1 record, Opasquia was second with a 3-3 record, Parkdale finished third at 2-4 and Cranberry Portage was fourth with a 1-5 record. In Pool B, McIsaac placed first with a 5-1 record, Cross Lake was second at 4-2, Creighton third at 2-4 and Scott Bateman was fourth with a 1-5 record. In the semifinals Ruth Betts defeated Cross Lake 28-26 and 25-22, while McIsaac beat Opasquia 25-18 and 25-23 to set up an all Flin Flon meeting in the finals. McIsaac needed three sets to beat Ruth Betts in the championship match, dropping the first 26-28 but coming back to win 25-17 and 15-10 in the third and deciding game. For third place, Cross Lake defeated Opasquia in three sets, winning 25-23, losing 21-25 but coming back with a solid 15-8 effort in the deciding game. In the 5th place consolation, Creighton downed Parkdale 26-24 and 25-20. Scott Bateman dumped Cranberry Portage 25-19 and 25-12 in the 7th place consolation. In girls action, 11 teams competed in two pools. In Pool A, Cranberry Portage finished first with a 9-1 record, narrowly edging Parkdale with the same 9-1 record. McIsaac V. was third with a 4-6 record, just ahead of Opasquia with a 4-6 record. Ruth Betts was fifth with a 2-8 record, and Scott Bateman rounded out the group with a 2-8 record. In Pool B, Scott Bateman was first with a 6-2 record, edging Cross Lake who also had a 6-2 record. McIsaac A. and McIsaac B. finished third and fourth with 4-4 and 2-6 records, while Creighton was last with a 2-6 record. The top teams in each pool advanced to the championship game, while the second place teams played for third place. In the championship game, Scott Bateman defeated Cranberry Portage 25-21 and 26-24. Cross Lake needed three sets to get by Parkdale, after losing the first game 11-25, they came back to win 25-15 and 15-9.
