The Flin Flon and Creighton Junior High Basketball Tournament was held this past weekend, with teams from McIsaac School emerging from the pack to win both the boys and the girls finals. In the opening draw of boys action, McIsaac Halpin, Opasquia, McIsaac Ly and Cranberry Portage won to stay on the a-side, while Pukatawagan, Ruth Betts, Creighton and Parkdale were all sent to the b-side. In the a-side semifinals, Opasquia and McIsaac Ly won to meet in the finals, while McIsaac Halpin and Cranberry Portage lost to end up in the bronze game. In the finals, McIsaac Ly edged Opasquia 23-22 to win the tournament. McIsaac Halpin defeated Cranberry Portage in the third place game. On the b-side, Pukatawagan defeated Ruth Betts while Parkdale beat Creighton. In the b-side final, Pukatawagan beat Parkdale to finish fifth overall, and Ruth Betts beat Creighton to finish fifth overall. In the girls draw, Ruth Betts, McIsaac Clark, Creighton and Parkdale were all first round winnners, while Opasquia received the bye into the second round. Losing teams were McIsaac Chrupalo, Scott Bateman, McIsaac Hoffman and Cranberry Portage. Keeping on the a-side, Parkdale defeated Opasquia and Creighton to advance to the finals, while McIsaac Clark beat Ruth Betts to advance. McIsaac Clark outscored Parkdale 18-6 to win the tournament. Creighton beat Opasquia, leaving Opasquia in fifth overall, and then Creighton beat Ruth Betts in the bronze game. On the b-side, McIsaac Hoffman beat Cranberry Portage and Scott Bateman to finish sixth overall, while Scott Bateman finished seventh with wins over McIsaac Chrupalo and Opasquia. Cranberry Portage beat McIsaac Chrupalo in the battle for eighth and ninth spot.
