Sixteen Canadian Junior 'A' Hockey League players made the grade in the National Hockey League central scouting service mid-season rankings of North American players and goalies. The British Columbia Hockey League led the 10 CJAHL member leagues with seven players identified. The Alberta Junior Hockey League and Ontario Provincial Junior Hockey League followed with four and three players rated, respectively. The Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League and Central Junior Hockey League each had one player listed. The St. Michael's Buzzers of the OPJHL and Camrose Kodiaks of the AJHL each had two players ranked. St. Michael's centre Andrew Cogliano, 17, was rated 87th overall among North American forwards and defencemen. The 5-foot-9, 175-pound Cogliano was tied for fifth among CJAHL scorers with 77 points, including 47 assists, in 39 games through Jan. 12. Defenceman Tyrell Mason of the Salmon Arm Silverbacks of the BCHL, left winger Mason Raymond of Camrose, winger Andrew Kozek of the Surrey Eagles of the BCHL, right winger Tim Crowder of the Victoria Salsa of the BCHL, right winger Matt Watkins of the Vernon Vipers of the BCHL and defenceman Kris Fredheim of the Notre Dame Hounds of the SJHL were rated from 126th through 149th. The 6-foot-1, 167-pound Mason was listed 126th. He is 18. The 6-foot, 165-pound Raymond, 19, was ranked 132nd. He was tied for 29th among CJAHL scorers through Jan. 16, with 29 goals and 61 points in 39 games. Kozek, 18, was tied for 12th among CJAHL scorers through Jan. 16, with 35 goals and 69 points in 41 games. He is 5-foot-10, 175 pounds and was rated 138th. Right winger Peter Bogdanich of the Chilliwack Chiefs of the BCHL, right winger Devin Timberlake of the Alberni Valley Bulldogs of the BCHL, Camrose defenceman T. J. Fast, left winger Jon Kalinski of the Bonnyville Pontiacs of the AJHL and left winger Matt Glasser of the Fort McMurray Oil Barons of the AJHL were identified between 156th and 173rd. The 5-foot-11, 190-pound Bogdanich was listed 156th. He is 19 and was tied for 77th among CJAHL scorers through Jan. 16, with 53 points in 44 games. Timberlake, 19, was ranked 159th. He is 6-foot-2 and 190 pounds. The 6-foot-1, 190-pound Fast was rated 164th. He is 17. Kalinski, 17, was listed 171st. He is 5-foot-10 and 165 pounds. The 5-foot-10, 175-pound Glasser was ranked 173rd. He celebrated his 18th birthday Jan. 11. Defenceman Kevin Schmidt of St. Michael's, defenceman Benoit Gravel of the Hawkesbury Hawks of the CJHL and right winger Jay Sprague of the Georgetown Raiders of the OPJHL were rated 211th, 222nd and 237th, respectively. Schmidt, 18, is 6-foot-1 and 175 pounds. Gravel is 6-foot-7 and 225 pounds. He is 17. The 6-foot-2, 216-pound Sprague is 18. Michael-Lee Teslak, 19, of the Prince George Spruce Kings of the BCHL was ranked 30th among goalies. He is 6-foot-2, 170 pounds and was tied for 14th among CJAHL goalies with a .923 saves percentage in 1,309 minutes through Jan. 16. Three players who played in the 2003 and 2004 RBC Royal Bank Cup national junior A championships were among the CJAHL alumni ranked. Boston College Eagles' freshman winger Dan Bertram, who celebrated his 18th birthday Jan. 14, was rated 32nd. The 5-foot-11, 175-pound Bertram played for Camrose when the Kodiaks earned silver medals in the 2003 Royal Bank Cup in Charlottetown, P. E. I., and spent a full season with Camrose in 2003-04. Right winger Jason Bailey, 17, was listed 47th. The 6-foot, 205-pound Bailey played for the Nepean Raiders of the CJHL in the 2004 Royal Bank Cup in Grande Prairie, Alta., and is with the U. S under-18 team. Defenceman Michael Kostka, who helped the Aurora Tigers of the OPJHL win the 2004 Dudley-Hewitt Cup and Royal Bank Cup, was ranked 201st. The 6-foot-2, 200-pound Kostka, 19, is a freshman with the University of Massachusetts Minutemen of the Hockey East Association.
