Starting this Saturday, kids will have one less reason to say "I'm bored, there's nothing to do", as Rack's Billiards is starting up Open Junior 9-ball for ages 13-17. "It's an opportunity for kids to come out and learn how to play 9-ball," said owner Roger Arseneau. "They can get pointers and tips. There are not a lot of teens using the pool hall. Most of them don't know about it." The game of 9-ball is shot in rotation. Whoever sinks the nine ball wins. You can sink the nine at any time, as long as you hit the lowest numbered ball first. The open 9-ball will run in a tournament format, starting at 2 p.m. on Saturdays. Doors open at 1 p.m. so you can come early and practice or get pointers. Play will start with a round robin, with the top eight players moving to a straight knock out draw, with a prize for the winner. "It's a chance for kids to get off the couch and give the video games a chance to cool down," said Arseneau. Rack's is also offering an open crib tournament on Sunday afternoons at 2 p.m. for those who want a break from pool. On Sunday evenings at 7 p.m. is an open 8-ball tournament. Mondays at 7:30 p.m. is the Flin Flon Hard Rock 8-ball league. There is an open 9-ball tournament on Wednesdays at 7 p.m.
