After finding their stride this season, the Flin Flon Aqua Jets sent a few of their swimmers to Provincials in Winnipeg recently. Garrison Aune, Emma Peterson, Kyla Suss and Jenna Bratvold put their qualifying times to the test in the PanAm Pool over three days. Each athlete swam four races, of which were their B-times. For swimmers who had three B times, they were to swim those three races and choose one other race to compete in. Lisa Aune, who accompanied the team to the Olympic-size pool, says they Òall did really well.Ó The swimmers competed in 16 races and earned 13 Personal Best times. ÒThey surpassed our expectations,Ó said Lisa. ÒTheir swim meet was only two weeks ago and so we didnÕt really think it was realistic for them to shave time off their times because it was only two weeks ago,Ó she said. ÒBut they practiced on their own with their parents drilling them and they did it.Ó Garrison, who swam with 11 and 12 year olds, swam fast enough in the 100 metre Breast to earn a seventh place out of 12. Though Garrison was the only one from Flin Flon to place, Lisa noted all the swimmers did very well. As the Aqua Jets had gotten used to swimming with their coach Mark Fenske on the sidelines, it was Jim Aune who filled in for the provincial meet. ÒWe are currently interviewing for a new coach,Ó said Lisa, nothing that Fenske had returned to school. The PanAm Pool in Winnipeg had 250 swimmers competing against each other.
