Five Flin Flon Aqua Jets have been waiting nearly a year for this weekend’s provincial swimming competition in Winnipeg.

Austin Dubreuil, Todd Nawrocki, Ryan Nawrocki, Taylor Lawrence and Cadence McIntosh have all qualified for at least one race in the Manitoba Junior and 10 and Under Swimming Championships.

Dubreuil and Todd Nawrocki, both 16, will swim in the 15 and over boys’ category while Ryan Nawrocki will swim in the 12 and under category.

Lawrence will swim in the 15 and under category while McIntosh competes at the 10 and under level.

This weekend’s competition will be a first for McIntosh, who joined the Aqua Jets three years ago.

All four of the other swimmers have competed before as Lawrence has swum for eight years, Todd for nine, Dubreuil for five and Ryan for seven years.

The five swimmers will be among hundreds of participants competing in this weekend’s event.

The Aqua Jets regularly meet three times a week, giving them six hours in the pool.

Dubreuil says the training is limited compared to southern swimmers who spend upwards of 12 hours a week in the pool and do dry land training.

But the difference in training hasn’t seemed to hinder the Aqua Jets as Dubreuil wasn’t able to attend the provincial meet last year for the fact that he swam too fast for the race.
