There was no costume judging, but the swimmers at this yearÕs Brandon Halloween Innovational swim meet still got the judgesÕ attention. Seven members of the Flin Flon Aqua Jets made a splash in the South recently as they took the 10 other clubs by surprise. The Aqua Jets, combined, swam 51 races and earned 48 best (B) times. Coach Jim Aune says one of the goals of swimming is to reach personal best times. ÒI am extremely pleased. I was hoping for the majority of best times, but I didnÕt think we would get 95 per cent,Ó he says. ÒThree quarters and I would have been proud.Ó With high results than the coach expected, the Aqua Jets had a few more tricks in their swim caps. ÒOn top of that kids qualified with Provincial times. I wasnÕt expecting that at all,Ó he says, noting that they were still hoping for it. With a few Provincial qualifiers, the Aqua Jets still have three more meets to earn a chance to go to Provincials, which will be in Brandon in March. The swimmers will be meeting in The Pas, Prince Albert and Thompson. ÒI think there are three, possibly four, more who can get to Provincials,Ó says Aune. As for the meet recently, the coach says itÕs huge, considering the clubs they were against. ÒFor a small group of seven to go down where some clubs had as many as 40 swimmers... I am just extremely pleased.Ó Terri-Lynn Mack, Garrison Aune, Emma Peterson, Joanne Mack, Nicole Storey, Shyann Brown and Jenna Bratvold went to the swim meet. Terri-Lynn, Garrison and Jenna each earned a Provincial time while Emma earned two.
