It has been a rough season so far for former Denare Beach curler Jason Jacobson. Jacobson was the third on the Brad Heidt rink, and after underachieving during the first half of the World Curling Tour season, Heidt has since moved on from the team. The team's single win came in Swan River, MB at the Whites' Drug Store Classic on the Remembrance Day long weekend, where they defeated Gerry Adams of Yorkton by one point to cash in on the $12,000 top prize. "The remainder of the season has been lackluster and a recent overhaul of the team will hopefully turn our luck around," said Jacobson. "Brad Heidt, our former skip, has moved on from the team. As a result, I will be throwing skip rocks and playing third, while our former lead, Steve Laycock, will be skipping and throwing third rocks. Replacing Laycock at lead will be 2003 World Junior Champion Kyler Broad." Since September, the team has made it to many qualifying games on the World Curling Tour only to lose the majority of them. The WCT has taken them as far as St. John's and Gander, Newfoundland and has also given them a bonspiel in their own Nutana Curling Club in Saskatoon. For the remainder of the season, Jacobson is looking forward to the challenge that lies ahead. "The move from lead to skip is not as big a leap as it sounds for Steve Laycock," said Jacobson. "He was the skip of the 2003 World Junior Champion team from Saskatoon. I have always loved playing third. This lineup will allow me to remain in that position, but the opportunity to throw the last rocks will be a welcome challenge. We are strong enough to win the Tankard and get to the Brier with this squad if we play like we can, but we are already scouting for a new skip to replace Brad Heidt in September, 2005." This new lineup will get the team through Brier playdowns beginning January 14.
