Finishing second won't be good enough for the Midget AA Bombers during provincials. Fresh in their minds was last year's double-overtime heartbreaker in the final against Norway House. On March 3-5 the Bombers will be on their quest to be the best at the Whitney Forum. "We have 12 guys leaving and we want to make it the best for all of us," said Bombers goalie, Blair Chaisson. "We've been working all season for this." There's something else they want too-fan support beyond their parents. Chaisson feels it's important to have the home crowd behind them. "We want to show them what we can do," Chaisson added. "I think it will help the guys be pumped up," said Bombers coach Greg Phair. Captain Matt Kritzer feels the team is ready. The only thing the team will have to work harder on is their defensive play-mainly getting out of their zone. Offense has never been a problem. Not only is the team motivated to win provincials for themselves, but also for their friend, Shayne Pearson, who played one season with them. "I think it will give us that extra edge," Kritzer said. The team heads into provincials after going 2-2 in a tournament in Brandon. Phair feels good about his team and felt undisciplined play in that tournament cost them. He wants to see them play "tough Bomber-style hockey". The coaching staff expects tough competition from Thompson, Norway House and Swan Valley. The other teams in the provincial playoffs includes The Pas and Cross Lake. Flin Flon plays their first game Saturday morning at 9 a.m. then their second game at 5 p.m. the same day. The qualifying round for the provincials is on Sunday starting at 9 a.m. with the top two teams from each side advancing. The gold-silver game will be played at 5 p.m.
