It’s been an impressive season for the Creighton Kodiaks six-man football team, to say the least. They have gone from playing their first game in history to earning the East Division title in the Northern Saskatchewan Football League.
They have devoured team after team, as they sit with a perfect 6-0 record.
The Kodiaks have grown substantially as a team, as many of the players didn’t know the rules of football – or even what a down was.
But they have overcome the odds against them and are now preparing for the NSFL final tomorrow in Prince Albert.
The Kodiaks will face the undefeated Pinehouse Lakers in a true battle for the top title of the season.
The Reminder cheers on the Creighton Kodiaks as they look to the Lakers for their biggest game of the season.
How they got to the top
The Kodiaks started off strong with their first win of the season, and in the school’s history, in Sandy Bay. Their 39-20 win would turn out to be their closest game of the season.
The Kodiaks hosted the Cumberland House Islanders and downed them 51-14 for their second win of the season before besting the Sandy Bay Timberwolves 61-6.
The Kodiaks’ final regular season game saw them defeat Senator Myles of La Ronge 44-8.
Their record placed them first in the East Division and gave them home-field advantage for the playoffs.
Creighton then hosted Senator Myles and sent them packing, again, with a score of 55-18.
The Kodiaks welcomed back the Islanders and earned a big 59-24 win to earn a trip to Prince Albert tomorrow.
Both the Kodiaks and the Lakers remain undefeated. Tomorrow will be the biggest test, for both teams, of the season.
Kodiaks; show em who’s boss and bring home the Ralph Pilz Trophy!
