The Second Annual Spring Indoor Soccer Kickoff Tournament is set to take place at the Whitney Forum April 30 to May 2. Last year, 98 kids took part in the three day event. "It was very fun for the kids," said organizer Rick Bacon. "Even though it was fun, it was still very competitive. This year, we hope to improve on the number of kids involved." Last year, in one division, the final game came down to a shoot out with teams taking over 30 shots. Players born between 1990 and 1995 are eligible to participate. Player of the Game Awards will be given out again this year, as will medals for gold silver and bronze, and of course, the big trophies for the winning teams. Aside from the soccer action, there will be a raffle table in the lobby, and a dance for the kids in the evening. "Last year, it was great to see the fans come out and watch," said Bacon. "We'd like to see them out again this year. Also, it would help if more coaches could volunteer their time for the weekend. It was tough to get the coaches out last year." Registrations have been sent out in the mail, but registration forms are also available at various spots around the city, as well as at the schools next week. The kickoff tournament is hosted by Flin Flon Parks and Recreation, and is not part of the Phantom Lake Soccer Club season. The committee that is organizing the tournament is the same volunteer committee for the regional soccer finals for the Manitoba Regional Finals, taking place in Flin Flon and The Pas, June 4-6. Any proceeds from the indoor soccer tournament will be used for programing at the Manitoba Summer Games Regional Finals.
