With just over a month left of in motion's Get Caught In Motion campaign, the committee is wondering where everyone is. "Where are the people who are physically active?" asks Fran Labarre, committee member. While it is evident people are out living a healthy lifestyle, Labarre says people aren't taking the time to phone in their names, or even other people's for that matter. Get Caught In Motion was formed to generate physical activity and healthy lifestyles in the community. Along with the project, some great prizes are up for grabs, but you can't win if you don't phone in, she says. "They have to be reminded to phone in. People are getting used to walking and not calling their names in," she says. Although getting outside and being active is great, Labarre says there are also some great prizes to be given away. The guidelines of a healthy lifestyle and physical activity can sometimes be unclear, but Labarre says there are lots of ways to get your names entered. "It doesn't have to be running, it could be cutting your grass, walking your dogs, walking to and from work, golfing, playing soccer and other sports," she says. "Where are the girls from Curves and people going to the gym at the pool and the swimmers?" Labarre hopes to see more people calling their names in this year. Last year, 1,500 names went into the draw and Labarre hopes to beat that this year. "I think people have just incorporated physical activity into their life and just don't report it." The phone lines are open for nominations until August 15 for a chance to win one of three prizes Ð golfing, yoga and camping packages. "It's just a phone call," she says. "It can be self-reporting or nominating someone else." The talk is on about the project throughout the town and Labarre says she has heard that people are embarrassed to call their own names in. "They shouldn't be," she says. "They are doing something great for their health Ð they should be proud of it." With lots of ballots sitting and waiting to be filled out, Labarre says she hopes people call their names or other people's names in soon. "People have to just do it and phone it," she says.
