What would you do with $1,000,000 for your community? Flin Flonners, as well as other Canadians, are being asked for their input on how to improve their community. Aviva Insurance is hosting its Aviva Community Fund project once again this year. Residents are encouraged to submit ideas and vote for ways to change their community Ð or even at a national level. The organization says ideas could be something like a new playground for an area of town or revitalizing a local community centre. "Essentially, the Aviva Community Fund is the Canadian Idol of positive change (except there are more winners and no one has to sing)," read a news release. The contest holds three rounds of voting before $1,000,000 is given away. The first round of competition is coming to an end quickly, but there is still time to submit an idea. The first round closes October 15. Last year, more than two million votes were cast. Following the voting, a panel of judges looks over the ideas. In 2009, winners were chosen across Canada for their ideas for improvement. Eight ideas were selected. Representing the country, Scouts Canada was awarded for their No One Left Behind (NOLB) submission. NOLB gives children the opportunity to participate with Scouts Canada that they may not otherwise receive. While Scouts Canada helped on a National level, the 2010 challenge is also geared to local initiatives. Aviva Insurance is looking for your ideas on how to improve Flin Flon.
