The Notre Dame Hounds will be making their first and only trip of the season to the Whitney Forum tonight, for one night instead of two thanks to the new playoff format and the unbalanced schedule. In their only other meeting of the season, the Bombers walked away with a 5-4 win, thanks to a last minute goal by Carter Chomyn last Wednesday night. It was Flin Flon's first road win of the season. The Bombers enter the weekend trailing the Melfort Mustangs by 10 points, with nine games remaining on the schedule. Three of those games will be head-to-head match up between the Bombers and Mustangs, starting on Saturday night in Melfort. Two wins this weekend would put the Bombers six points behind with seven games remaining, two against the Mustangs. While Flin Flon is still a long shot to make the playoffs, they control their own destiny as the Mustangs haven't been able to win lately. The Bombers have been red-hot at home, undefeated in their last three games at the Whitney Forum. Notre Dame comes to Flin Flon on a two-game losing skid, and will be looking to put an end to that on Friday night. On Saturday in Melfort, the Bombers will be looking for their second road win of the season, although they beat Melfort in two games at the Whitney Forum earlier this month. Flin Flon won the first game 3-1, and then exploded for a 7-2 win on the second night. See 'Next' P.# Con't from P.# The Mustangs have won just one of their last 10 games, and currently haven't won a game in eight contests. Most recently, they lost to the Humboldt Broncos on Wednesday night on home ice. Next week, the Bombers will be in La Ronge for a Tuesday night matinee, and then another game in Melfort on Wednesday. If the Bombers want to be successful in the coming weeks, they will need solid contributions from everyone, from the goaltender down to the last man on the bench. Goaltender Francois Laverdiere has played some of his best hockey lately, and some of the first-year players have really picked up their game. They will need to play with the confidence of seasoned veterans to compete with the rest of the league. The drama begins to unfold at the Whitney Forum tonight. Game time is 7:30.
