The SJHL is pleased to announce Notre Dame Hounds forward Travis Janke as the provincial winner of the RBC Scholarship. Janke is now eligible to win the national award. The award is based on academic accomplishments and community service. Janke won the SJHL scoring title in 2009-10, and off the ice he was a champion as well. He volunteered at soup kitchens, the community rink, and also worked with community children. He tutored Math at Notre Dame College with high school students, mentored Wilcox children through volunteer community skating events and community events. He travelled to Regina to volunteer in the Regina Catholic Community Schools Program and worked at the Notre Dame arena. Janke also says, "Being involved in hockey has allowed me to be placed in leadership roles and be a role model for many children. Living in a community like Wilcox has taught me that I always have teammates (community members). "Living in a dorm with twenty other guys has taught me that although I may have a disagreement with a roommate, I am not always right. It is crucial for success when we compromise and accept each other's differences and similarities." 2010 RBC Junior A Scholarship winners: British Columbia Hockey League Ð Jordan Soquila - Merritt Centennials Alberta Junior Hockey League Ð Breyden DeCock Ð Drumheller Dragons Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League Ð Travis Janke Ð Notre Dame Hounds Manitoba Junior Hockey League Ð Joe Caligiuri Ð Dauphin Kings Superior International Junior Hockey League Ð Andrew Childs Ð K&A Wolverines Ontario Junior A Hockey League Ð Paolo Alexandre Pianosi Ð Aurora Tigers Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League Ð Bronson Kovacs Ð Soo Thunderbirds Central Junior Hockey League Ð Andrew Calof Ð Nepean Raiders Ligue de hockey junior AAA du Qubec Ð Etienne Archambault Ð College Francais de Longueuil Maritime Junior A Hockey League Ð Samuel MacCormick Ð Bridgewater Lumberjacks "RBC is pleased to continue helping provide opportunities for Junior A hockey players to further their education," said Josh Epstein, manager of sponsorship and Olympic marketing for RBC.
