Lee Deary, branch manager of the Flin Flon RBC branch, was recognized along with 13 other volunteers at the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto as RBC honoured its local hockey leaders. "It was incredible," Deary said of the experience. "It was pretty impressive and standing there being inducted, it was quite the extravaganza." What Deary enjoyed about the ceremony was meeting the others being recognized with him. "The people were incredible," he said. "They each have a love for hockey. The people are amazing." The Flin Flon branch manager enjoyed listening to each story, but he was also happy for them, as they were for him. "It's definitely nice to be recognized. I didn't look at it as me, but Flin Flon," he explained. Of all the people receiving the RBC Local Hockey Leaders program award, Deary is the only one whose contribution is from the Junior A level. His volunteer work for MJHL's Waywayseecappo Wolverines and the Flin Flon Bombers earned him the honour. Deary didn't just meet the other winners, but former great players such as Wendel Clark, Cheryl Pounder, member of Canada's Women's National team, Don Ellis, who played in the 1972 Summit Series, and Johnny Bower. Deary said it was pretty cool to meet them. He had a chance to speak with Clark and Bower and found both to be nice people. For Deary, it was just great to walk around hockey's shrine, even though he'd already been there before. Deary's wife, Laurie, accompanied him for the induction ceremony on April 12 that has placed Lee in the Hall for a year. Each winner was also able to contribute their own hockey memorabilia for the Local Hockey Leaders display set up. Deary placed a Bombers puck along with a picture of the 2005/06 team.
