Kelly Carrington Staff Writer The Flin Flon Xtreme Hockey School is gearing up for another exciting session. Based out of the Whitney Forum, the hockey school teaches players new skills and helps them master ones they have already learned. 'Returning as the director of the Hockey School this year has me excited to implement new drills and be creative to keep the North's longest running hockey school up to date and fun for all,' wrote Mike Reagan in the school's brochure. Reagan, head coach and GM of the FliN Flon Bombers, will join the skaters on the ice to hand out advice and tips as well as help make the school fun and enjoyable for those involved. Reagan will share the ice with Bomber assistant coach Michael George, powerskating coach Rob Abbott, starting goalie Devon Buffalo, as well as eight other instructors. Flin Flonners Tanner Korchinski and Dillon McCombie will help out as well, as will Bombers Greg Wiwcharuk, Brandt Weldon, Cam Blair and former Bomber Harley Garrioch. Jeff Stallard of Creighton will be an instructor. He currently plays with the Brandon AAA Wheat Kings. Of course off-ice training is just as important as what happens on the ice. Participants will be guided by Joel Jackson while off the ice. Flin Flon Xtreme Hockey School gets underway in August and is open to athletes ages six to 12. The Advanced Camp is open to those 13 to 15, while the Conditioning Camp is open to anyone 15 and older. As well as the three main camps, the Xtreme Hockey School also offers specialty clinics in powerskating, stickhandling and shooting, and bodychecking. Challenged Those participating in the school _ open to both male and female players _Êcan look forward to having fun, being challenged, and working in a positive atmosphere, according to the brochure. With an emphasis on skill development and powerskating, the school will also encourage athletes, motivate the skaters, and give classroom instruction as well as dry-land training. Through the classroom portion of the Xtreme Hockey School, athletes will learn about the game as well as substance abuse, education in hockey, sportsmanship and hazing. Through both the off-ice and on-ice programs, the students will participate in team-building exercises. Goaltenders will have one-on-one sessions that focus on stance, positioning, playing with the puck, deflections, angles, agility and conditioning.
