Flin Flon Xtreme Hockey School is returning for a sixth year, and director Mike Reagan is excited. "I was really happy to get it back," Reagan said of getting the bid. He feels that way because it has become a work in progress as he tries to make it better and continue its momentum. From August 21 to 26 the camp offers sessions for Juniors (aged six to nine), Intermediate (10 to 12), Senior (13 to 15), and conditioning. There will also be a specialty clinic for power skating, stickhandling and shooting as well as body checking from the 27 to 29. For goaltenders, those who register will receive four one hour sessions Monday through Thursday focussing on stance, positioning, playing the puck, deflections, angles, agility, conditioning and more. Reagan hopes to continue improving the quality of the camp by having the same instructors, which he feels helps build a comfort level with the kids and creates a fun atmosphere. Instructors this year will be Dallas and Bradey Fidierchuk. For Dallas, it's his fifth year. Joining them are Richard Dupre, who was an instructor last year, and Andrew Leslie as well as fourth-year goalie instructor, Travis Rideout, Chris Affinati, who played pro for the Pee Dee Cyclones and Pat Iannone, who played pro in Italy with Varese Hc. As the school improves, Reagan would like to see the Flin Flon Xtreme Hockey School become known as the hockey camp of the North. "It's something to say about Flin Flon," he added. Reagan expects this year to be bigger as 130 took part in the regular school and clinic (some people more than once) last year. "I was very happy," Reagan said of the numbers. "I was surprised with the response for the specialty clinics." The success was so good he nearly had to turn people away. To avoid that scenario this year, Reagan suggests people register early. For those who register by July 10, they will receive the Early Bird discount and entry into a draw to win one week of hockey school and a Bomber season ticket. "I hope that we get over 130," the former Bomber added. "One hundred is the benchmark to set." Combined with learning the skills of the game, Reagan said there will be a fun day for kids and team building activities. There will also be a floor hockey tournament as well as dry land and on-ice skills competition. On Saturday, there will be a challenge game in the Whitney Forum during the morning to wrap things up followed by a barbecue. "I look forward to seeing these guys and it's a good way to start the season," he said.
