CBC's Hockey Night in Canada begins another chapter in its longstanding history of hockey broadcasting excellence, announcing the launch of HNIC Radio on SIRIUS Satellite Radio. HNIC Radio on SIRIUS hits the airwaves on SIRIUS Satellite Radio on Oct. 1, and brings Hockey Night in Canada back to the radio airwaves where it originally started 74 years ago in 1933. "This is a wonderful extension of the Hockey Night in Canada brand," said Scott Moore, executive director, CBC Sports. "Hockey Night in Canada is the most powerful sports brand in the country, and we are thrilled to partner with SIRIUS Satellite Radio to provide Canadians with more of what they love throughout the week. Saturday night is simply not enough to provide our fans with the best, most up-to-date hockey news and information - but now - HNIC Radio will do just that Monday through Friday." HNIC Radio will air Monday through Friday from 4-6 p.m. ET on SIRIUS Satellite Radio's Channel 122 and will be available to SIRIUS listeners throughout North America. Jeff Marek, one of sports talk radio's brightest stars, joins HNIC Radio as host, and will work alongside rotating co-hosts Kelly Hrudey, Elliotte Friedman and Scott Morrison. HNIC Radio will feature intelligent hockey talk, insight and analysis, keeping fans up-to-date on all the breaking news and issues from the world of hockey. Hockey Night in Canada analysts Craig Simpson and Greg Millen will also be regular contributors on HNIC Radio, while Ron MacLean, Don Cherry, Jim Hughson and Bob Cole will appear throughout the season, offering entertaining and engaging opinions and insider information. "Hockey Night in Canada is the country's most recognized sports property and we're thrilled to bring it exclusively to SIRIUS Satellite Radio," said Mark Redmond, President and CEO, SIRIUS Canada Inc. "HNIC Radio on SIRIUS will give listeners the hockey news, talk and analysis that they have been asking for in an exciting new daily drive-time program featuring top commentators and personalities from the Hockey Night in Canada television lineup." Hockey Night in Canada, one of the longest-running sports-related television programs in North America, has an extensive and intriguing past that dates back to 1933, with the first national radio broadcast hosted by the legendary Foster Hewitt. In 1952, the show debuted on television coast-to-coast, and a Canadian Saturday night institution was born.
