Hockey fans that didn't get enough action during the regular season can participate in the 2004 first annual Bomber NHL Draft and Banquet. The evening of sportsmanship will be hosted by Rocky View OTA on April 6, with a chance to win some great cash prizes. The idea for the draft came from Rob Elliott, who approached the Bombers on behalf of Rocky View OTA about hosting a draft. Elliott participated in a similar draft in Yorkton, and the event has been very successful for other teams as well. "We're hoping to make this an annual event," said Tim Coutts, a member of the Flin Flon Bomber board of directors. "It's lots of fun when you get everyone together." A good meal and some good laughs, as well as good competition can be expected. "The bigger guns in town that are known for their draft abilities will be there," said Coutts. "It should be interesting. Knowing you are going against the best should create some good rivalries." Teams can register in groups of four, and registration includes a supper ticket for each member. With a 15 team minimum, odds of winning are better than one in four. A shuttle service will be provided. Upon arriving at Rocky View, each team will receive a package with a random draft number, 1-15. Each team will pick 10 players, one per round, starting with number one going up to 15, and then back down in reverse order for the alternating rounds. Picks can be made from any playoff contending team. After the draft, people are invited to stick around and talk hockey for the rest of the evening. For more information call Tim Coutts, 688-7646 (day or 688-8500 (night), or Rob Elliott at 362-2360.
