The Oil hockey club are excited about the start of the recreation hockey season, and have come up with a way to make the outcome of any hockey game a positive one, win or lose. Everyone likes to win, but in the event of a loss by The Oil, the team has agreed to donate one can of food for every goal difference in the loss to the Lord's Bounty Food Bank. For example, if the team loses 5-4, they will donate one can to the food bank. A 17-2 loss will result in a 15 can donation. "The food bank always seems to have a high demand and low intake of food," said team representative Jason Mandes. "We thought this would be a good way to help out." The North of 53 Consumers Co-op agrees that the idea is a good one, and has agreed to match the amount donated by the hockey team. "We're not really that good, you know," said Mandes. "We're in good spirits, but hockey is almost like a secondary thing for us. This is something we thought about doing, and we're going to give'er." The plan has only run into one snag so far Ð The Oil won their first game by a score of 12-5 (approximate). Mandes doesn't expect this to be a regular occurrence, and expects that the team will be donating hundreds of cans by the end of the season. The first donation will be made at the end of November.
