The Hapnot Kings and Kweens earned themselves first place banners in Zones last month. Competing at the Phantom Lake Golf Course on September 17, the Kings earned first place over two other teams Ð MBCI and Joe A Ross, both from The Pas. The Kings won by 44 strokes. The Kweens didn't have any competition sign up. The team played one round of golf before being awarded the Zone 11 banner. As the weather was not very cooperative, with snow flying, as the teams only played nine holes of golf. The following weekend, the Kings traveled to Portage La Prairie to compete in Provincials. With a team of four, the top three scores are accounted for as the team total. For 18 holes, the Kings shot a 253. Though the details haven't been released in placement order, chaperone Rob Abbot says he figures the Kings earned an eighth place finish out of 16 teams. Former Flin Flon resident Trevor Fox, who now lives in Dauphin, had the low score for his team. He shot a 73 in Provincials. For Flin Flon, Jace Anderson had the low with an 82. The Kweens were invited to attend Provincials, but were unable to as two teammates had prior commitments. Kings coach Todd Quinn was also unavailable to attend Provincials, but Abbott said all the credit goes to him for the season. "He worked hard and he worked in the summer," said Abbott. Quinn coached the Kings team but also helped out with the Kweens team.
