The Nipawin Hawks flew past the Flin Flon Bombers 3-2 on Sunday, handing the Maroon and White their only loss of a three-game exhibition weekend. Just shy of 500 fans lined the Whitney Forum seats as the Bombers salvaged a point by taking the game to a shoot-out. Flin Flon started the scoring off at 6:43 of the first period when Chris Blaquiere lit the lamp. The Hawks answered back with a goal from Phil La Penna, assisted by Mike Broadziak and David Dykstra, after 18:13 of play. Only one goal came in the second period, with Nipawin's Dean Prpick, assisted by Alex Bates, giving his team a 2-1 lead. The Bombers scored the only goal in the third period when Tommy Costanguay, on a feed from Kirk Moore and Reid Macleod, evened things up. After a scoreless overtime, the Bombers and Hawks ended things in a shoot-out. Nipawin's Steve Mason scored the only goal, delivering a 3-2 victory for the visitors.
