The Melville Millionaires have completed a deal with the Winnipeg South Blues of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League. Last season, Melville sent 20-year-old goaltender Justin Leclerc to Winnipeg for 20-year-old forward Cody Gross. Futures were also involved in the trade and now those futures have been determined. The Blues send 17-year-old Lucas Froese to Melville in exchange for 18-year-old defenseman Derek Wasylyshyn. Froese had 24 points, 10 goals and 14 assists, in 52 points for Winnipeg last season and will attend the camp of the WHL's Swift Current Broncos before reporting to Melville. The Battlefords North Stars have acquired the rights of 20-year-old defenseman Jacob Chiblow from Orangeville of the Ontario Junior Hockey League for future considerations. Chiblow has played three years in Ontario for both Orangeville and Kingston. He played with Kingston when they went to the Royal Bank Cup in 2009. Stars head coach Ken Pearson feels his experience will help what is already a strong blueline. Nipawin Hawks coach Doug Johnson has announced the signing of two American born players that he hopes can take his team on a playoff run. The newest Hawks are 18-year-old defenseman Shawn McAllister out of Cincinnati and 19-year-old forward Darius Coles from Colorado. Johnson says McCallister is a good skater who makes a nice first pass and plays with a little bit of an edge while Coles is a tenacious forechecker with a lot of speed. The Battlefords North Stars have announced three of their players are moving on to begin pro careers. Two of the players, captain Mitch Wall and assistant captain Brody Malek, have signed contracts with the Columbus Cottonmouths of the Southern Professional Hockey League while assistant captain Jesse Lebreton has signed a deal with the Neuilly-sur-marne Bisons and will play in France's first division.
