Hapnot Collegiate Institute's track and field team continues to make strides. The team will send nine members to City championships this weekend after competing in "boiling" weather following provincials in Selkirk last weekend. Coach Steve Lytwyn is happy with how things went. Heading to Winnipeg will be Lyle and Jeanelle Leclair, Kendra DuRussel, Nick Hamilton, Owen Woloshyn, Peter Weber, Chadd Ticzon, Wesley Gawiak, and Jordon Crone. "Last year we sent eight," Lytwyn said. "I would like to see it get higher." To do that, Hapnot's track coach said that his athletes have to work harder before the season and train throughout the year. Of the 40 kids on the team, roughly 10 take the sport seriously. "It's a link to why there's nine going," Lytwyn stated. The team made school history as they were the first to win a Zone championship as they won by 99 points. The previous year they had lost by six.
